Vin is a half-black dragon rogue who until very recently had been traveling with Zahn, a character from Sil's past. For the last few years, Vin has basically been under Zahn's complete control, unable to disobey any orders from his "friend". Now that he's free, he's not really sure how to make decisions on his own, and is doing what Marcus (of the Church of Tamara) says for now.
Under Zahn's instruction, he trained as a thief and assassin, primarily to neutralize Sil if she ever became a threat. He's quite skilled at both thieving and assassinating...
