Racked.  A touch sweet, good malty character, a little bit more grain flavor than I was looking for, and a touch darker than I'd been hoping.  All in all, it's a good start, and a good place to build.  Refinement for next time: Cut the amber malt in favor of a very light malt, like crystal 20, and add some oats or wheat to give it some depth. -[[User:Morrigu|Morrigu]] 16:04, 13 January 2012 (EST)

I figured it's time to play again. This time, I'm going for a slightly sweet, malty, high gravity blond ale, the idea being a blonde stout. We'll see how well I can pull it off.

(dirty) Blond Bombshell

  • 2 cans (6.6 lbs) Breiss pilsen liquid malt extract
  • 1 can (3.3 lbs) Muntons extra light liquid malt extract
  • 8 oz Amber malt
  • 8 oz carapils
  • 8 oz Munich I
  • 4 oz Halcyon
  • 2 oz Special Roast
  • 2 oz Brown malt
  • 1 oz Hallertau hops pellets
  • 1 oz fuggle hops pellets
  • 1 tube White Labs 002 English Ale yeast
  • 1 tsp irish moss
  • 5 oz priming sugar

Brought 2 gallons of water to 185F, soaked grains for 45 minutes. Added LME, 1 gallon of boiling water, and 1 gallon of hot tap water. Brought to 190F, added Hallertau hops and set 1 hour timer. At 30 minutes added the irish moss. At 15 minutes, added the fuggle hops. Cooled in a sink of cold water to 88F, topped off with cold water, and pitched at 77F.

-Morrigu 16:04, 13 January 2012 (EST)
