Main Idea and Theme
This is about the superhero worship inside of me, and the need to belong. Watch Mento as he tries to get into the superhero society of his dreams while balancing the illusion of a normal life.
There's a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor. Things are only semi-serious. Obvious plotholes are obvious, references to other media are made very clear, and the author is blamed for any and all inconsistencies or lack of drawing skills.
The City
Like any superhero town, its name is too embarrassing to say. And like any town, there are normal people doing normal things and having normal lives. The normalcy is boring, in general, but it keeps them out of trouble.
No wait, it doesn't! Normal citizens are just begging to be captured, robbed, or exploited for some villain's gain. They hang between life and death, praying that SOMEONE will save them!
And once they're saved? Normalcy sinks in again. Back to your day job!
Super Justice Squadron
The few, the brave, the super-endowned. Those supers who have proven themselves worthy can join the Super Justice Squadron! They have a floating space fortress that lets them dispatch heroes from across the globe! And their mansion secondary base lets them talk to the people (the nice ones, of course.)
Tinker is a member. Mento desperately wants to join. Lucelia doesn't really care. And Prick hates it.
Major Characters
These are the four major characters.
Mento
Real Name: Nate Menta Age: 28 Height: Kinda short Weight: Thin, no real muscle tone |
Mento is a single father dedicated to protecting the innocents of his fair city. He also wants to join the Super Justice Squadron, the bestest superhero club known to man. He is also looking for that special someone to spend the rest of his life with, although he hasn't had much luck. He only seems to attract the dangerous types.
He loves his adopted son, Jack. They fight crime together, and Mento is a bit overbearing on him (but it's out of pure love.) Lucelia seems to follow him whenever he solves crimes but he doesn't mind (she's quite the looker, anyway.) He thinks Tinker is a glory hog, though, and can't stand his showmanship. Why don't people like Mento, anyway?
Mento works at Smartypants Publishing as a senior editor. It specializes in books that boost intelligence, wit, and charm. His secretary, Lucy, helps him organize his notes, answer the phone before he can, and cover for him when he needs to...help others. His father founded the company, but disappeared 10 years ago under mysterious circumstances.
Mento fights with...well, raw confidence. Mento has no powers (besides being stealthy when his mouth is shut,) per se, but he has a knack for demoralizing his opponents and dropping their defenses so he can score a critical hit. Mento also travels with his grappling hook and his 1998 Toyota Camry.
Prick
Lost, Stability, Son
Real Name: Jack Hanes Menta
Age: 15
Height: Average
Weight: Normal
Prick is, like most other teenagers, lost. Prick lies at that tender age where he hates authority but buys every product he can get his hands on (especially if the bad-ass fighter, The Slash, endorses it.) Where he can't stand taking orders but loves his father. And where each new discovery reveals a world of information to him.
You see, he can't remember much before he was 12, when Nate Menta adopted him. Not that it matters much. He doesn't know what his origins are, and it bothers him a bit. Although something seems to be calling him from then. Maybe he needs to read more back issues...
Prick loves his father, Mento. He corrects Mento constantly, and he can't stand when Mento becomes overbearing, but he wouldn't be happier with anyone else.
Prick fights by extending spikes from his body. His main weapons are 2 long spikes from his hands, with a unique "shpikt!" sound effect that no other superhero has ever used before. He can also cling to walls and surfaces (even though it makes a mess.) He can extend spikes from his side and use it to glide on currents of air.
Lucelia
Least Effort, Superiority
Real Name: (It's really long and overly complicated.)
Age: (Big, at least 16384)
Height: Tall
Weight: OK, nothing extraordinary.
Lucelia is an angel. Well, she was an angel. Then she got sick of the heavens' rigid rules and inability to think outside the box. Then she became a demon, and she couldn't stand the rampant chaos. So she lives on the mortal plane, tyring to live like a normal human would.
Except it's so hard. Why bend over to pick things up when you can telekinetically lift them? Why drive to work when you can fly or teleport over? Why wear clothing when you can conjure an illusion of it over yourself? When you've learned everything in Heaven, Hell, and inbetween, using mundane human methods are so...daunting.
Lucelia believes in using the least amount of effort to get the job done. She works as Nate Menta's secretary at Smartypants Publishing. She can pick up the phone faster than he can, and she's very fast at organizing his work for him. Nate doesn't seem to notice the superhuman quality she has. And that's fine with her.
Lucelia can fly (wings) and knows a wide variety of magic. She also knows ancient lore and history more than everyone else. Not that she gloats about it. Humans will forget it and die off, anyway.
Tinker
Machismo, Star, Inciter
Real Name: ?
Age: ?
Height: Above average, but shorter than Lucelia
Weight: Pretty heavy, since it's a metal suit
Tinker's a macho man in a robot suit. He's always telling people to do the right thing. And he likes muscle cars. No one has ever seen the man behind the mask, or where he lives. He's also the only hero in this city to be a member of the Super Justice Squadron.
Tinker is very proactive. He thinks those with the power to help should help, and he wants everyone to powerup! He supports local tough guy contests and monster truck rallies. He also likes to check out bikini babes and swimsuit competitions. He's a real charmer, despite the voice box that he speaks through.
Tinker is one of the most respected heroes in the city. The media refers to him in a positive light, unlike most of the other heroes (especially Mento.) Tinker really thrives off of the respect and rewards the city gives him.
He is the most independent member of the group. He thinks Mento is too weak to be a hero. He thinks Lucelia is hot. And he likes Prick's pragmatism.
