This is the Iron Samurai. I found him when a Singer Repair shop closed and they sold off the machines no one had ever come to pick up. The wooden case had dried and splintered, so I tore it off. It needed a new plug, so one was put on. After that, all that he needed was to have a mouse-sized lump of lint removed from his innards and a good dose of oil and voila! I have a machine made of cast iron, steel and enamel that can sew through cans. Nice. Also, he was made in occupied Japan, as the little brass plaque on his side says. He's a Brother clone of a Singer. So, I dubbed him the Iron Samurai.
