Contamination happened when I pitched.  The outside of the carbouy got moldy, and when I opened it up, some spores must have gotten inside because the top quickly grew furry spots.  Rather than trying to salvage it, I dumped it.  Next time I'll pitch the 099 the first time I feed it.

  • 3.3 lbs (1 can) amber lme

Brought 2 gallons of water to 180F, soaked the grains for 45 minutes. Added 1 gallon of cold water, brought to a boil, added LME, returned to heat, brought to a boil again, started 1 hour timer and added kent golding hops. At 30 minutes, added irish moss. Racked and fed 5 lbs of honey in 1/2 gallon of water again. Very sweet, with a nice honey flavor on top of a nice beer flavor. -Morrigu 22:08, 25 March 2012 (EST)

Boiled ~1 liter of water, added 1/4 cup DME. Returned to heat and boiled for a few more minutes. Cooled to 80F in an ice water bath and put in a 1 gallon fermenter with 1/8 tsp yeast energizer. Pitched 099 yeast to make a starter. Morrigu 3 September 2012
