I was appalled at how much the cafeteria charged me for a Powerbar "Harvest" bar today when I was in desperate need of lunch. It tasted like peanut butter and chocolate chip cardboard, despite advertising a "delicious chewy texture" so I decided that for $2.50 a pop, I could make a tray of my own.

Ingredients:

4.5 cups raw oats

1 cup flour

1 stick of butter

3/4 cup apple sauce

1 cup honey

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp almond extract

2 cups dried fruits (cranberries, raisins, and chopped dates)

Tools:

1 Muffin tin

1 fork

1 rolling pin

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Nuke the butter for 10 seconds on high, until it is softened. Stick that into a bowl, and use what's left on the wrapper to lube up each cup in your muffin tin. Cram all the ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly until well combined. Scoop mixture into cups, generously filling cups. Then, really smash it in (pack it in there real good) with your hands and then roll the rolling pin over the top to smash it in further and level each cup (you want these to come out chewy and dense). Bake for 13 minutes, or until it's golden brown and chewy-delicious. Feel free to substitute the oats with other grains for that extra fiber punch.
