Oraine is a Mhuinntir, a natural shapechanger. Her people are gifted with the ability to shift into jaguar-shape; and because of this, they are hated and feared by those who think they are cursed with lycanthropy. They are a secretive people, fiercely independent and with little connection to material possessions. Oraine is a ranger and huntress wandering the world in search of stories and knowledge to bring to the tribe. She has a tendency to disappear and show up without warning, though the group has gotten use to it. It's not out of irresponsibility; it's just how she is.

She's closest in the group to Sil, who she considers her best non-Mhuinntir friend, and to Mia, who she thinks of as her little sister.

Oraine appears as a slender human woman with tanned skin and short black hair. She also appears as a sleek black jaguar with glowing amber eyes. Either way, she's a tough cookie.
