Silara is Sil's mom, a great big gold dragon pretty lady. She was until recently the guardian of the golden Orb of Dragonkind. Somewhere in there she found time to abandon her egg and run off to fight evil. Stupid mom.

Okay, she's actually like an epic Draconic hero and icon. See, there are these not-quite-god forces known as the Ancients; there's one for each color of dragon. They basically represent the epitome of what that type of dragon is, and they're almost all Great Wyrms. Unfortunately for all Good dragons everywhere, The Gold was slain about a century back, and Silara was chosen to step up despite being way young for the position.
