Nidri's had the best sleep she's had in years.
Cat: hah.
Nidranisan is up bright and early, well-rested, and in the office examining some items.
Chris: How's the stat drain? Just dex left?
(GM) Chad S. (GM): Nidri is at -3 Dex and -1 Con
Chris: I guess we'll be reporting in to the office today.
And then make another Sendrine for PP exchange.
The East Ferren Trading Company still stands tall. People run to and fro from the company.
Your office is kept tidy by maintenance staff. It's amazing how much cleaner things look, compared to the offices in Mardens City.
Chris: I'll show them.

Chris throws stuff all over the floor.
Chris: Hmm... somehow it still looks clean, just disorganized.
Fi: So, which is stranger? How clean this place is or how unkempt Mardens is?
Nidranisan: Uh, it's definitely less natural how clean things are here.
Nidranisan is peering at the monocle Lord Trout gave us.
Cat: was the -3/-1 after whatever healed overnight? (it's a point of each per night, or one point total?)
(GM) Chad S. (GM): You heal 1 point in each stat for each night.
It's -3 Dex/-1 Con after you healed.

The party walks to the head of security. She seems happier than usual, dispatching orders to her subordinates.
Melodie waves the party in when she sees them.
Melodie Mel: Hey guys! Make yourselves comfy!
Hawk Hubertins: Hi Melodie
Cat: ...i said melanie, but i meant marjorie. and somehow, we ended up talking to melodie. CHAD WINS.
(GM) Chad S. (GM): FLAWLESS VICTORY
Chris: Whatever.
Fi: Learn anything new since we've been gone?
Melodie Mel: Well. The Magmere Construction whatever have lost their hold on this town, apparently.
Rumor has it former members are running scared. Some are even turning themselves in to the City Guard!
Fi: Interesting.
Melodie Mel: Makes my job a lot easier.
Fi: I wonder if their leadership fell apart or if something scared them.
How is Snock working out?
Melodie Mel: Snock's been a very good boy. He's helped out a lot in safely demolishing some of the buildings that were ruined in the explosion.
Turns out he's also pretty good at rebuilding them.
Nidranisan: nice.
Melodie Mel: Had to force him the first few times, but he learns quick.
Anyway, how was your trip to Mardens City?
I never get to visit there.
The noblemen are still kinda mad.
Nidranisan mutters something in infernal.
Fi: Educational. Have you heard of a "Lord Trout?"

Hawk Hubertins chuckles.
Melodie Mel giggles as Nidri mumbles
Melodie Mel: Lord Trout. Big hedonist. Big businessman.
Fi: Yeah, well he owes us one now. His place kinda got burned down, and we pulled him out.
Melodie Mel: Fire? Yikes. Is he alright?
Fi: Seems to be living it up just fine after some recovery.
We also met the "Maiden of Gold." Interesting lady.
Melodie Mel 's nostrils flare as Fi mentions the name. She catches herself.
Melodie Mel: That - that thief!
Oooh, if I ever get my hands on her...
Fi: Haha! Slippery one. Was disguised as an old man.
Melodie Mel grumbles something in Infernal. Not pleasant.
Melodie Mel: She tried to steal my sword once, you know!
Melodie Mel pulls out her Adamantine Greatsword
Fi: I could believe it. She seems to like taking things that people flaunt.
Melodie Mel: Well, she wasn't expect me to call it back.

Fi laughs.
Melodie Mel tosses the sword. As it lands she snaps her fingers and it appears instantly in her free hand.
Fi: I would have liked to have seen her face.
Nidranisan: neat.
Melodie Mel: Hmm. I thought she was an elf, but I wasn't sure. Couldn't identify her clearly.
But anyway, I'm sure Marjorie was impressed with what you did.
Fi: I'm pretty sure she can look like whatever she wants.
Chris: Can we just pretend that we did things in the right order since we have name issues :-P
Melodie Mel: Good job, everyone. Um....anything else I can answer?
Nidranisan: Heard anything else about the whole Carfen thing?
Melodie Mel: So. Ever since his...passing, the mansion has been off limits. Under official investigation by Lord Dakan.
Nidranisan: ah yeah.
he was pretty broken up about the whole thing.
Melodie Mel: What I've heard is there was an outbreak of Doru who were hiding in his mansion.
We helped contain the damage alongside the town guard.
Nidranisan: sounds totally plausible.
Melodie Mel: Lord Dakan was very thankful.
Losing a friend hurts so much...
Nidranisan: yeah.
and for him, it was two so close together.
Melodie Mel: I wish I could do something to cheer him up, but. I guess I can just be there for him.
Nidranisan: sometimes that's the best thing.
we can drop by and offer assistance as well.

As the party leaves the office, Melodie starts drawing patrol routes on the map of the East Ferren Trading Company and the streets near Harvest Wharf.
Meghan: or we can call her "Ms. M"

Marjorie's office is full of bookkeepers and salespeople, working on making sure the company still earns a profit.
Marjorie is at her desk with Abraxinal at her side as usual.
Nidranisan: good morning miss Marjorie.
Marjorie Mel: Miss Nidranisan. Good to see you have returned.

Nidranisan: do i still look that bad?
Marjorie Mel: No, you have recovered from it, and your body will fully recover in...I'd say two days.
I was quite good at triage before father asked me to take over.
Nidranisan: Yeah, probably.
I'd say you're still quite good at triage.
Just...maybe not called on for that skill as often?
It's funny, i had a pretty easy time helping everyone ELSE who caught it.
including a couple of the horses.
floored me, though.
Marjorie Mel: Yes. Usually the East Ferren Trading Company wants me to audit more often than not.
Nidranisan makes a face.
Nidranisan: stupid flies.
Marjorie Mel: Horses are quite hardy.
Nidranisan: yeah, we still made sure to take care of them.

Marjorie Mel: Hello, Mister Hubertins.

Marjorie Mel: It is good to see you all. I assume you are here to give a report.
Cat: so, i think we haven't been specifically discussing the black sendrine and mycel.
but are we otherwise just plot dumping?
Chris: Aside from that I think so.
Cat: you want us to explain, or wave-hand-barf-plot? :)

Nidranisan: ...and then lillikur said he just wanted his figurine back...and we put out feelers and the thief came and found us...mansion burning down...rescued Trout, got some info on Carfen's associate while we were there...

Marjorie Mel nods politely
Nidranisan: Trout did have one thing that came from Merki's crate.
Abraxinal doesn't seem to react when the party describes the mansion raid.
Nidranisan: maybe there's someone here who is better at identifying its properties than I am...there seems to be a faint curse on it.
and I couldn't tell how to deactivate it.
Melodie Mel: A curse?
Nidranisan: wait, melodie's still here? :P
Marjorie Mel boots Melodie out of her office

Cat: in case you were wondering, i am snickering out loud.

Nidranisan takes out the monocle and hands it to MARJORIE.

Marjorie Mel takes a look at the monocle, examines it closely. Eventually she places it on a piece of cloth and carefully slides it back to Nidri.
Marjorie Mel: Hmm...I notice the curse you mentioned. I'm not sure what it is, either.
Nidranisan: I'm reluctant to try too much without getting someone more knowledgeable to take a look.
we'll see if we can get more info on it.
oh, and we didn't end up needing to give lillikur any monetary reward, so...
Nidranisan has that bag of money stashed in this bag somewhere....
Marjorie Mel: Excellent.
You know what? Keep the bag. Consider it your reward.
Cat: was it 100 pp in the bag? or am i misremembering?
(GM) Chad S. (GM): That sounds correct, but give me a second here.

Marjorie Mel: Well, take your time getting settled back in Harvest Wharf. There are still pending issues from the other two assignments that I would have you solve.
But please, take your time.
Nidranisan: Sure. maybe we'll look into the local one first, so I can recover before we hit the road again.
Marjorie Mel: I see. Drop by tomorrow morning and I shall have more details prepared.

Looks like the party has a day to kill.
Hernz: I don't think vegie has any pressing things to do
Cat: i nock an arrow...

(GM) Chad S. (GM): Probably?
I think Chris mentioned this.
Cat: yeah, we wanted to show him the sendrine we found.
(GM) Chad S. (GM): Aaaaalrighty then!
Cat: maybe he'll take a look at the monocle too.

also wanna get Fi's restoration.
The Arcane Library, as always, is much larger on the inside than the outside. Gravity flips somehow as you walk downstairs, then upstairs to enter the star-lit hemisphere.
Micel's gaze is as usual, locked on the ceiling.
Nidranisan: A few things we might ask you to examine, when you have a moment.
I think Fi and I were able to identify some Black Sendrine with the info you gave us last time we were here.
Micel Verdantflame finally swivels off his chair
Micel Verdantflame: Well, well...I don't remember where you were going last time, but...
(GM) Chad S. (GM): Fi was able to grab 3 softball-sized rocks of Black Sendrine.
Nidranisan: To Mardens City.
another incident involving a ring, much like that disintegrating one.
this one unfortunately has turned all the way to ash in the meantime, but Fi was able to bring some rocks of Black Sendrine.
Micel Verdantflame: Ooo! May I look at the rocks?
Cat: assuming when chris is available, Fi will share.
Micel Verdantflame: You said it burned to ash? It didn't crumble into sand?
I'm so confused. Yet intrigued.
Nidranisan takes out the wrapped up bit of whatever ash is left.
Nidranisan: The other one had a div aspect, this one had a demon aspect.
So I guess, fire instead of corruption or whatever?
Still looking for a woman with another div one.
Micel Verdantflame pokes the ash a bit, nodding along with Nidri's explanation.
Micel Verdantflame: So interesting...someone is giving out rings and turning people into divs and demons. Surprised there aren't any devils running around.
Nidranisan: well, none that we've seen yet.
Micel Verdantflame: ...did you kill the demon? What did he parade as?
Nidranisan: actually, the guy didn't really turn into a demon.
the suspected div-lady put this cursed ring on him, and we were able to get him out and to someone who could break the curse.
he basically just looked like himself, but he was chained in a room being burned down by some dretches and a quasit.
it was a nice, fun vacation, as usual.
Cat: i'm totally imagining Fi methodically digging through bags this whole time, and it's hilarious.
Nidranisan: though, now that you mention it, i think Fi said he was actually sitting on the pile of rocks with the black sendrine in it.
i'm sure that must have some funky effect on this, no

Micel Verdantflame: The rocks are...worn down a bit. They are soft and malleable, however. Maybe they deformed under his weight.
I'm guessing the rest of the pile was destroyed?
Nidranisan: unfortunately.
we had quite an epic battle putting out the flames.
Micel Verdantflame: A shame. Great way to hide the evidence, though!
Nidranisan: someone there did take a shaving off one of the rocks.
Micel Verdantflame: At the fire?
Nidranisan: i sort of doubt they'll come up with someone you don't already know, but on the off chance we hear any info from them, we'll let you know.
after, when they questioned us about it.
they wanted to be sure we hadn't set the fire ourselves, i guess.
Micel Verdantflame: Oh, who questioned you? I wonder if it's someone in my network. Maybe a rival.
Nidranisan: some temple with a zone of truth up in their interrogation room.
Micel Verdantflame: Nope, not the kind of people I would know.
Nidranisan: Virton i think?
Micel Verdantflame: Sounds about right.
Nidranisan: they asked if we took anything out of the mansion, and Fi had to mention it. no real way around it unfortunately.
they didn't really seem to know what it was.
and they didn't ask.
Micel Verdantflame: Hmm. It is only a matter of time until people figure out what this is and what it does - at the very least it attracts outsiders.
Nidranisan: probably true.
have you learned any more about it since we've brought these samples in?
Micel Verdantflame: Yes. Somehow, outsiders can use this to empower themselves. At the very least they can use this to form a link with those native to the Material Plane.
Once the link is set, it's easy for them to travel here.

Nidranisan: so...someone sitting on a pile of it, wearing a cursed ring with a demon aspect, is actually a pretty big setup.
Micel Verdantflame: I guess so. But you said he didn't flip out.
Nidranisan: right. which kinda surprised me.
Cat: either he made one heck of a save, or........something
Micel Verdantflame: See? We're discovering new things everyday! Heehee!

it seems to have some faint curse on it, but it is beyond my ability to identify.
it belonged to someone very curious about these types of outsider matters, but i don't know if it has any relation to any of this for certain.

Chris: I was busy dealing with Locke, cleaning the house, and trying to catch up on sleep.
Cat: all much more reasonable things than lurking on here...
uh, someone's gonna smack me for this, but why did i think it was 100 pp for a piece last time? or are these just huge? :)

The party spends some time talking to Micel Verdantflame, learning some more about chemistry, and getting paid 3000 GP worth of platinum pieces.
Hernz: vegeta tennis time :)
Chris: I guess we'll try to find an appropriate place for a restore for Fi.
(GM) Chad S. (GM): Sounds like plan.
So, you know about the Temple of Laniss. You know Marjorie Mel can also cast it. If you're looking for anywhere else you can try a Knowledge (local or religion) check (you can take it untrained)

Fi seems to be hesitant about having Marjorie do it.
Chris: I would be fine with just going to Laniss if no one else has suggestions.

Fi waits in the walk-in clinic.
A well-groomed half-orc walks into the room. His garments are quite clean, and he walks with an air of authority.

Fi is led into a small room, mostly enough space for Fi and the half-orc.

As Hannelore enters the room, one of the town guards taps her on the shoulder and hands her a note. She explains that Captain Dakan wants her to report in and she heads off.

After making preparations, the party drops Porri off at Claire's home, telling her to stay put.
Following Torras's directions, everyone heads out of Harvest Wharf.
The ruins of a mansion sits not too far outside of town. Looking around there is a ramshackle door and pathway built into the side.
Lanterns dot some paths between the rooms. It's clear this was converted into a base.
You hear many sounds come from what seems to be a main hallway.
You hear several humanoids conversing with each other, as well as...some kind of animal.
(GM) Chad S. (GM): It seems like conflict is inevitable. You will need to make Stealth checks if you want to try to ambush foes.
You should also make a Knowledge (Nature) check to identify the animals.

Beyond this room, it's clear why they guarded this room so closely. A carefully dismantled crate bearing the East Ferren Trading Company's logo is visible, with most of the items left intact.
Jewels, art, and books detailing customs and personalities in the Draugh Empire are carefully organized but relatively untouched.
There are also several broken weapons in the room. The blades, points and edges are not made of steel but rather a soft, black stone.
Also in the back is a humanoid 5 foot tall statue. Its pure white finish is marred by several black wounds. Upon approaching the statue, you realize it is...breathing?
(GM) Chad S. (GM): For tomorrow:
A) What are you doing with your defeated foes?
B) Hey, it's the contents of the crate! What will you do with it?
C) What's with the statue?
Fi: I suggest that we keep her for information. As for 'Rattrap,' letting your familiar loose isn't a set-up for something?

Nidri isn't really sure what the ring is, besides magical.
While it does look heavily refined, Fi concludes the blade has Black Sendrine strewn throughout the blade -no wonder it is so fragile.

The Witch's giant rat squeaks excitedly to the witch. She pays attention as it jumps, squeaks and runs in circles.
Witch: S-slow down, Rattrap.
Claire: Huh. does the witch know? or the rat?
Witch: Rattrap says it saw some...Orcs in the darkness? Huh. Now we look like we're witholding information... Okay, I was kinda busy Rattrap.

Fi swears up a storm.
Fi: Those Orcs seem to be working some much nastier fellows. Among whom is one capable of controlling people's minds somehow. That is why the Guards ignored them. We saw it before during the Magmere infiltration of the city. Everyone who gets involved in this stuff ends up in deep doodoo. Like Carfen.

(GM) Chad S. (GM): I updated the handouts to include answers to your questions. You have 1 question left to ask the statue, then you guys should decide what to do about your vanquished foes. Adrias and Torras are willing to keep watch over the prisoners while you return to town and find patrolmen to make an arrest with.

The statue seems to breathe one last time as it crumbles. It almost looks like it is smiling as it loses form.

Chris: Well, I vote that we turn these guys in for property theft. They'll get a punishment, then they can skedaddle out of here.

With the questioning complete, Derrin and his witch are charged with property theft. Fi ponders over what the Orc involvement was in this.
It only takes an hour or so for the party to find the guards, bring them to the abandoned mansion and have the guards formally arrest Derrin.
Adrias says he spent his time taking inventory, and he's not sure what to make of it all. Especially the lump of star metal.
Torras is mostly bored. Now that the exciting part has ended, she's seems much more sane than usual. Her mannerisms are already very polite and formal.
Adrias Stonebottom: Starmetal is usually found in nuggets, the size of a small ball. So who would form them in this shape.
A big cube like this?
Talking statues, brittle blades, teleporting Orcs... main office is gonna have one hell of a report.
Torras Lendolay: I never knew about this side of Derrin. He hid his anger at the East Ferren Trading Company well, and even wished me luck when I was hired.
We should contact a team to collect the contents of this crate and return it.
Adrias Stonebottom: Yeah, but never trust the amateurs, they have sticky fingers.
Adrias Stonebottom grabs some of the Draugh books and treasure
Adrias Stonebottom: Grab the most important items and let's bring them back first. A recon team can fix up this place.
Adrias leaves the room, taking some of the Art, Jewels and books from the Draugh empire.
Torras stands watch outside, talking to the guards as they begin to escort Derrin and crew away.
(GM) Chad S. (GM): Adrias and Torras have left the broken weapons and the lump of Starmetal behind.
Cat: yeah, we should grab those.
Nidranisan: I suppose Mycel will be interested to see the weapons.
He might be able to tell us if the starmetal has any...related properties.
Hernz: I'm pretty sure we would be able to carry everything else?
I'll be damned if I ever encounter a treasure our characters can't take with them lol
not that Vegeta would suggest this cause he can't lie, but, we could claim all this crap was part of the crate, which in theory belongs to the WTC

Vegeta doesn't notice any hidden passages or hallways.
Fi notes freshly made Orc tracks in this room and only in this room. They begin in the middle of the room, they moved to the crate and then they returned to the middle of the room.
Damage so far: Fleir is at 20/24 HP with 3 Nonlethal damage.
Gathering what they can, the party heads back to Harvest Wharf.

May 2, 1236 AD (late afternoon)

Something is going on with this material and the stolen crates. Merki's last job must have uncovered something big. Big enough to attract big players.
